National Pitbull Awareness Month

I love pitbulls. They are sweet, smart and sassy. Pitbulls are also very strong and when under the wrong guidance can do some damage. Just like humans. But the biggest difference is dogs can't speak up if they don't like something, and after years of humans domesticating them, all they really want to do is please us, even if it's through pain.

I hope everyone in their lifetime can experience the joy of having or visiting with a pittie. They are one of the most mis-understood mammals out there. My heart breaks every time I hear somebody is scared, hates them or even worse, has done physical or emotional damage on this innocent breed.

Pitbulls and chihuahuas are the two most popular breeds in animal shelters. I hope that will end soon and people spay and neuter their dogs and also realize dogs are for life and what you put in the relationship, is what you get out.

In honor of all the pitbulls who have gave us humans unconditional love, I dedicate this Ben Harper song, "You found another lover", to all the babies who have passed or are looking for a second chance in life.

If interested in adopting a pitbull baby, here are a few who are now at the Baldwin Park Animal Shelter waiting for you!!

A4640061 Cali is loving one-year old female grey and white Staffordshire Bull Terrier puppy who was brought to the Baldwin Park shelter on October 5th. Weighing approximately forty pounds, this “pocket pittie” walks well on leash and appears to be housebroken. She has passed her shelter administered temperament test with flying colors. Cali is gently curious about other dogs and given her gentle and loving disposition, we think she would be a wonderful playmate for children. Cali will be an exceptional indoor companion for an individual, couple, or family living in a condo or single-family home.   A4629651 Petunia is an affectionate eight week old brown female Pit Bull/Chihuahua mix puppy who was dumped at the Baldwin Park Shelter on September 8th by a backyard breeder, who was trying to make money by breeding pit bulls. Weighing eight pounds, we think this amazing puppy is going to grow to twenty pounds. Obviously she has had no training, but she is extremely food motivated – she’s quite the chow hound – and she’s being fostered by one of our volunteers and being raised with a litter of kittens! Petunia is going to make an outstanding indoor pet for an active family living in a private home. To watch a video of Petunia please click here:www.youtube.com/watch?v=c6fXUaPvAIA
