What a truly wonderful dog. Tricolorly terrific!!! During the photo session, he spent time chilling in Gwenn's lap while other dogs got their pics taken by the marvelous Marissa. Max has an old abnormally healed pelvic fracture and his left hind leg no longer works as it should -- so he has to limp. But, heck, he's got a smile that doesn't quit -- so why should a leg bother anyone?

While Elmer's story is a tragic one, his face and his personality make up for any sadness in his past. Elmer was out parading on the streets, along with his best buddy, when he was hit by a car. He suffered multiple pelvic fractures as well as a femus fracture and will need surgery. Elmer's friend refused to leave his side and, when a kind citizen gathered up this boy to bring him to the shelter and safety, his friend came too.
Elmer's friend, a 3-year old pit, has been adopted. Elmer remains in medical where staff adore him. Want to adore him to? Then come meet him at the shelter and please consider rescuing / adopting him. You can contact me re any assistance with his medical needs and we will see what is available.

A3786452 Rocky is a gentle six year old black neutered Long Haired Chihuahua who was dumped at the Downey Shelter on May 23rd. Weighing twelve pounds, this loving dog walks nicely on leash, knows how to ‘sit’ on command and we think he is housebroken. He is polite, gets along well with other dogs and we think he will make an excellent pet for children. He is pretty low key and if “lap dog” is a profession he is an expert at it. Rocky is an exceptional indoor pet for anyone in any living situation and would be an ideal companion for a senior citizen.

A4724171 Luna is a one year old white and tan female Dachshund mix puppy who was jettisoned at the Downey Shelter on June 20th along with her best friend Big Black (A4724170) because her former owner claimed she could no longer afford to take care of a dog. Weighing six pounds, this petite puppy walks very nicely on leash and we think she is housebroken. She is tender, gets along fine with other dogs and we believe she will make a super pet for children. If there is a possibility she could be adopted out with her best friend Big Black that would be incredible! Luna is an outstanding indoor pet for anyone in any living situation.

A4713063 Veronica is a bouncy five year old white female Terrier who was found in Culver City on May 22nd and brought to the Downey Shelter. Weighing seven pounds, this sparkler walks well on leash and we believe she is housetrained. She is affectionate, likes the company of other dogs and we think she will is a natural for children. If you enjoy taking strolls around the neighborhood or going to the park then Veronica is the perfect companion. Veronica is a terrific indoor pet for anyone in any living situation.

A4724170 Big Black is a two year old black male Dachshund who was deserted at the Downey Shelter on June 20th with his best friend Luna (A4724170) because his former owner claimed that it cost too much to take care of a dog. Weighing nineteen pounds, Big Black walks very well on leash and we were told that he is housebroken. He is playful, gets along fine with other dogs and he does great with children. He loves his bestie Luna and it would be wonderful if they could be adopted out together. Big Black is a remarkable indoor pet for anyone in any living situation.

A4721091 Gingersnap is an easy going three month old chocolate with white markings female Terrier mix puppy who was found in East Los Angeles on June 13th with her brother Gorilla (A4721089) and brought to the Downey Shelter. Weighing four pounds and likely to grow to eleven pounds, this little honey hasn’t had a lick of training and is at the perfect age to begin puppy classes. She is loving, gets along fine with other dogs and we believe she will be a remarkable pet for children. She’s got the cutest scruffy coat of fur that just begs to be brushed and groomed. Gingersnap is a terrific indoor pet for anyone in any living situation.
