Every first and third Saturday of the month I volunteer my time to photograph dogs and sometimes cats that are at Downey Animal Shelter. These pets are at the shelter for various reasons, usually owner surrender or strays. United Hope for Animals helps out Downey with taking the doggies (or kitties) pics and networking these babies through Facebook their Facebook page. It works miracles, most of the time. Helping these dogs out is hands down one of the most rewarding things I have ever done in my rat life so far. I will volunteer my time to help these critters get out of jail until I physically can't no more. I hope I make it to at least 80 or something like that :)
Below are some of my favorites from Saturday. Although they are all my favorites and I never discriminate, these particular mammals really stole my heart in some way or the other.

A4613479 Mike is a cuddly three month old white and tan male Chihuahua puppy who was found in East Los Angeles on July 31st and brought to the Downey Shelter. Weighing three pounds, this precious pup’s little feet never hit the ground and each and every handler took a turn holding and loving him. He is very affectionate, gets along well with his kennelmates and we think he will make an outstanding pet for children. Mike is a little lump of love and will make an extraordinary indoor pet for anyone in any living situation. (Did we mention that he has “flying nun ears”?)

A4614975 Tate is a cute three month old white and tan female Chihuahua puppy who was found in Whittier on August 3rd and brought to the Downey Shelter. Weighing five pounds, this sweetheart told us this was the very first time she tried to walk on leash and would we please be patient with her. (She will need formal training.) She is gentle, gets along fine with other dogs and we believe she will become your children’s best friend in a heartbeat. Tate is a dainty delight who will make an ideal indoor pet for anyone in any living situation.

A4618514 My Baby is a stunningly beautiful one year old brown female Teacup Chihuahua puppy who was found in East Los Angeles on August 12th and brought to the Downey Shelter. Weighing five pounds, this graceful girl prances prettily on leash but will benefit from additional training. She is loving, gets along good with other dogs and we think she will make a terrific pet for children. She has a gorgeous silky brown coat and captivating green eyes so get your cameras ready! My Baby is a graceful little lady and will make a marvelous indoor pet for anyone in any living situation.

A4616657 Earl is a gentle six month black male Terrier puppy who was found in Lynwood on August 7th and brought to the Downey Shelter along with his brother Merle (A4616658). Weighing eleven pounds, this kind pup is very enthusiastic about starting training classes and especially if his brother Merle gets to go along with him! He is relaxed, gets along wonderfully with other dogs and we think he will make a perfect pet for children. Earl is a charmer and will make an exceptional indoor pet for anyone in any living situation.

A4618123 Winona is a delightful three month old black and white female Longhaired Chihuahua puppy who was found in East Los Angeles on August 11th along with her companion Winifred (A4618121) and brought to the Downey Shelter. Weighing three pounds, her tiny feet never hit the ground because her handler insisted on cuddling her and Winona was more than happy to be held close. She is vibrant, loves to run and play with other dogs and we predict she will make a remarkable playmate for children. Winona will make an ideal indoor pet for anyone in any living situation.

A4618507 Olympia is a pleasant three year old brown female Longhaired Chihuahua who was found in East Los Angeles on August 12th along with her sister Augusta (A4618506) and brought to the Downey Shelter. Weighing nine pounds, Olympia pulls on leash and will need formal training. She is playful, gets along beautifully with other dogs and we think she will make a great playmate for children. Olympia will make a fabulous indoor pet for anyone in any living situation.

A4619300 Pomeroy is a handsome six year old brown and tan male Pomeranian mix who was found in La Habra on August 14th and brought to the Downey Shelter. Weighing eight pounds, this handsome guy walks excellently on leash and we believe he is housebroken. He is well socialized, gets along fine with dogs of all sizes and we think he will make a wonderful pet for children. His favorite place in the world to be is in the lap of his loving owner. Pomeroy will make a terrific indoor pet for anyone in any living situation or for a senior citizen.
